City
of Newcastle was an iron paddlewheeler owned and operated
by the Hunter River New Steam Navigation Company. In this role
she was mainly engaged to operate between Morpeth and Sydney as a
coastal steamer.
In 1861 she was chartered by Henry Gilbert Smith to run excursions to
Manly; this seams to have been repeated on several occassions in 1862
and 1867.
City of Newcatle ran aground
at Nobby's Beach on September 12th 1878, no lives were lost and the
vessel was a total loss.
