Horrid is right!   The older colours were much better.  But our society always seems to go with New Is Better!

What ever happened to Tradition??   Nice photos and thanks

Hi Ric

Yes, there is this idea in the community - especially in work places that you  must make a radical change to demonstrate that you are making a difference.  The whole idea of change management getting out of hand has now encouraged workers to undertake change for the sake of change!

I like the green and cream - the buses should go back to that too!

But then, I'm a traditionalist - ferries or cruise boats that fly the national flag instead of the Australian Red Ensign really annoy me an'all !

There's no obligation to fly it.

What peeves me is the ratty SFC flags shown on the ferries, I doubt they're ever taken down.

But Lance....obligation is one thing ; wanting to fly the Aust. Red Ensign because it is a bit of fun is something else again.  It's the tradition thing essentially and if it confuses people who don't know that's good too because it gets people talking about these things and actually noticing.  Although on that subject years ago I asked a hotel room cleaner in Honolulu why the Union Jack was on the Hawaiian flag and she had no idea, in fact, I don't think she seemed to have ever noticed!

At least Sydney Ferries still fly the Aust. Red Ensign which actually urprises me; I bet it goes before long, though!

But you are so right, all Sydney Ferries have to do is take them in each night and run them up in the mornings.  It gives the wrong message altogether to see tatty flags.  It says that they don't care much.

The house & ensign at manly wharf are brought in at dusk every night.

As for the boats themselves i've heard it's a trade in deal you hand your old ones in and get a new set, some maybe tatty flags are out there but with so many crews moving from boat to boat and the spare boats it's a bit down the list of things to do. However there is no doubt looking at the Fleet flying the flags (preferable clean and new) is worthwhile and will never change.
one toot for starboard and two for port, everyone knows 3 glasses is too much you need to back up

Hi decky

You know, I just read what I had to say above and thought that I sounded a bit reactionary!  Still, it's good to see a smartly turned out ferry, I agree!

I have scanned a lot of my slides from the mid 70s.  Regrettably they all have the much loathed light blue colour scheme...see the attached shots of Karabee at Long Nose point.....

Nah - it's the blue from the Italian Fishing Fleet colour scheme drowning out everything else :) Nice shots though.

Such a shame the double ended wooden boats are gone.
