Shane Gould is one of the seven RiverCat vessels. These were all built
in response to growing demand on the Parramatta River route. She is
also the last of the RiverCats to be constructed.
They were also built to a design that allowed them to travel with a low
wash, thus reducing damage to the fragile river ecology. These vessels
re-opened the route to Parrmatta.
She is named after the Australian Olympic swimmer born on November 23rd
1956. She won several medals in the 1972 Olympics and retired at the
ripe old age of sixteen.
