Swansea was built for Harmer's Watson's Bay Regular Steam Ferry Company and operated on the Watson's Bay run. In 1887 her control passed to the Watson's Bay & South Shore Steam Ferry Company Limited.

In 1901 she was re-engined and at the same time was renamed to 'Federal'.

She was hulked in 1922.
